What is your contraception story?

I’m a Community Sexual and Reproductive Health Consultant in the NHS and as part of my PhD research, I wish to interview Black women on their experiences with Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARCs).

What are long acting reversible contraception (LARCS)?

Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARCs) which are highly effective and long-lasting method for preventing pregnancy. These include the contraceptive implant, the intrauterine device (IUDs) and the contraception injection.

These methods are considered the most effective way to avoid pregnancy and are reversible, meaning fertility is restored once the device is removed.

Who is this research for?

If you are over 18 years.

If you identify as a women of Black African, Black Caribbean or Black mixed heritage?

If you have ever accessed contraceptive services in the UK.

This is not a medical consultation and, I will not be providing any personal medical advice.

OR

If you are over 18 years and a healthcare provider who has provided contraception and contraception counselling to those identify as a women of Black African, Black Caribbean or Black mixed heritage.

What will happen in the research?

You will find a mutually convenient time to arrange a one-on-one interview which, will last 45 minutes to one hour. A follow up interview may be scheduled if, you wish.

OR

You can also opt to take part in a small online focus group instead.

This interview will be recorded and transcribed.

If preferred, you can take part in a focus group (a group discussion on the themes explored in the research).

You will be given a £15 Love 2 Shop Voucher to compensate you for your time.
